UCSF Dental School

UCSF Dental School is located within the campus of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), which is the only UC institution that focuses solely on the health sciences. Formally known as the UCSF School of Dentistry and founded in 1881, UCSF Dental School was the first academic institution to teach dentistry on the West Coast.

The four departments of the UCSF Dental School are: Cell and Tissue Biology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orofacial Sciences, and Preventative and Restorative Dental Sciences. Through these departments, the school offers programs including the Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), Dental Scientist Training (DDT), and combined Doctor of Dental Surgery/Master of Business Administration (DDS/MBA). Other programs include: Dental Public Health; Oral and Craniofacial Sciences; Periodontology; Endodontics; Prosthodontics; Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Residency.

UCSF Dental School also offers the International Dentist Program (IDP), a two-year program that grants a DDS to dentists trained outside the United States. The school also trains students, who have applied to dental schools but have not been accepted to any, with the one-year post-baccalaureate program--a UCSF Dental School original.
